Should school change? I think that the change would be a good change because students are able to research from the internet and work in teams to learn. I think that will make school more interesting. Students will also use a variety of resources, not just their teacher or from what they all ready know.

The traditional view of school will need to change. Parents will need to accept that students won’t bring home as much home work and there will be more project work. Students will need to accept that more work will be on the computer and they need to learn by themselves and with their friends. Teachers will need to be a coach instead of telling students everything.

I don’t want to change the subjects we learn or the assignments we get. Projects like the stop animation video are lots of fun. I also like having a teacher in the class to help when I have questions. Over all I think that school should change

Out of the three videos, I thought the video on wind power by GE was the most interesting. The message that was being presented from the ad was wind power is strong and that wind can be put to good use. It was effectively presented to me by the little boy capturing wind in a jar and when he opens the jar wind blows out the candles of the grandfather’s cake and lot’s of other stuff around the house. I did some research and the drawbacks of wind power that are being left out are;

• wind turbines are noisy and really bother people that live close to them (wind turbine syndrome)

• birds get hit with the blades while they are migrating

• turbines can generate limited power if not in the right location or not maintained.

My experience is that the local turbine at Lisgar GO station is often locked and not spinning. The video reminds me of watching both sides of the oil sands argument in class. The video serves the interest of General Electric which makes and sells wind turbines. The video was made to persuade people that wind energy is good and to buy or support wind energy. I think that if wind turbines are in the right location, wind power is a good source of energy.

My Question is who invented the air plane?

I did some research and found out it was the Wright brothers there names are Wilbur and Orville Wright. Then I did some research about their plane that they invented. One of the key features of their plane was the three-axes control that helped the pilot steer the plane more effectively so they did not crash. To fly the plane, the pilot had to lay down on his stomach. There was no room for passengers. The plane was made of wood, canvas and cables.

I interviewed 4 people, my Mom my Dad my Cousin and Arnav.

My mom knew that the Wright brothers invented the first plane, in the early 1900s. She knew the brothers names and the plane was made of wood, canvas and cables and that there was a whole room dedicated to them and their plane in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.

My dad knew the Wright brothers invented the first plane, the first flight was in Kitty Hawk North Carolina and that the first flight was 120 feet long.

Both Arnav and my cousin Ella knew that the Wright brothers invented the first plane, and that was all they knew about it.

My three questions that I now have are
How big was the plane
Was there a crowd watching
How high did they fly

My family went to Washington DC last March break and we saw the actual plane that was built and flown by the brothers. There are lots of interesting facts about the plane and the flight on the plaque displayed by the plane exhibit in the Smithsonian, (see attached pictures).

These are some of the interesting facts I learned about the Wright brothers. I hope that you take the time to look at the pictures I took last year at the Smithsonian and learn something about the plane and who invented it.

The things I would like to start doing in the new year are

 

1. I would like to win the playoffs in hockey
2. I would like to take my dog on more walks by myself
3. I would like to improve on my paragraph writing
4. I would like to keep my room tidier
5. I would like to train to get on the cross country team in school
